The Law Of Harvest

We probably have all heard the expression “you reap what you sow.” This expression is mostly used to illustrate the law of cause and effect. However, the law of harvest is more than just cause and effect. This law says that there are stages in the process of growth. And, each stage builds on the previous one.

Farmers grow in their farms by seasons. There is a season for tilling the land. There is a season for sowing the seeds. There is a season for growing the crops. There is a season reaping the harvest. Each season has their respective action to do. To have a good harvest you cannot skip, take short cuts, nor cram at the end of the process. This may work for students – in the short run - but not for farmers.

To grow into persons of character or effectiveness, there are steps in the process to be taken in seasons or stages. Each action must be done in the proper stage, because each of them builds on the previous one. Skipping, taking shortcuts or cramming the process of growing will become evident in the time when it is least expected and most needed. The right technique, the right words, the right knowledge, or the right clothes will not replace character. There is an old maxim that says, “Sow a thought, reap an action; sow an action, reap a habit; sow a habit, reap a character; sow a character, reap a destiny.”

Albert Einstein said, “Most people say that it is the intellect which makes a great scientist. They are wrong; it is character.”
